EASTside
The area originally planned as Hampstead Village in 1789 was an early Charleston suburb known for openness and proximity to the breezes from the Cooper river. The Eastside is bordered for the most part by Meeting street on the west and East Bay on the east. The northern area referred to as "NOMO" or North Morrison is also currently part of the Eastside as well.
The East Side is home to The Cigar Factory, an 1882 cotton mill that was later used to produce and export tobacco products. This was a significant development for this community and marked what many investors believe to be the start of much of the larger developments happening today, as new businesses, and luxury apartment complexes continue to fill in the area along Meeting Street. With a mix of college students and native Charlestonians that have lived there for generations, the neighborhood is transforming into a revitalized mixed-use, pedestrian friendly community. The Eastside also features a number of historic homes, most notable being The Faber House, an 1836 Palladian Villa with giant Ionic columns and domed cupola.
Other neighborhood highlights include Edmund's Oast, The Bay Street Biergarten, The Royal American, Bar Mash, Taco Boy, and Reverly Brewing, just to name a few. The Eastside is also home to local favorites such as, Eastside Soul Food and Hannibal’s Kitchen, serving traditional southern fare. Investment opportunities abound in this area!
